Good Morning All
So much for the bad weather forecasted. Yesterday it was 19 degrees in Auckland and hotter I am sure, in my courtyard. We’ve had a couple of days of winter then it seemed to disappear. I haven’t had a coat on yet so it can’t be far away.
Paris Butter in Herne Bay…I can’t recommend this enough. I was taken there on Friday night for yet another birthday celebration and it couldn’t have been better. Some of the very best food in auckland and so differently presented to anywhere else in Auckland. Everything about it was perfect from the moment we got a car park right at the front door to the last morsel of home made mandarin gummy bear oh and the little pot of truffle butter to take home. Fab…u…lous.
Yesterday was a day of pottering, moving back upstairs and sorting out the chaos I had created downstairs. A pile of washing and lots of cooking. I had a couple of recipes I wanted to try before a dinner party I have next weekend. As it is supposed to be winter I tried a couple of braised long and slow cooked dishes. Beef cheeks in chipotle and beer and rendang beef short ribs. Not sure about either but I don’t actually eat much red meat. I’ll try again today before sending care packages out. However I did make Nigella’s Burnt Basque cheesecake and it was beyond delicious. I have a gluten free eater so many of my winter desserts are steamed Pud’s or have flour in them but this one doesn’t. I didn’t make the licorice sauce but did serve it with rhubarb and berries and it was spoon licking good. Comes out of the oven wobbly, meant to look slightly burnt and you serve it in paper but all in alone to add to the repertoire.

Today I am going to be lazy. I have a massage and I have to go to the supermarket and drop off the care packages but hopefully I can avoid the office and the ironing and just do not very much of anything. I was hoping for rain as that definitely makes you feel less inclined to be active.
Megan and Harry will it never stop?
On Friday as I was doing my dog drop off run just after 7 there was a very large procession of very diverse people from the Sallies to some of the Queens of the Night still in there sparkles. Definitely not your normal Friday morning. I heard later they were walking to celebrate the opening of the new cycle lane. And I also know there is one going all the way down Ponsonby Road… this absolutely rips my nightie! What are the powers that be thinking. Not only do we not have the weather nor the terrain to allow all year biking it seems nobody has thought about the ramifications to business. In a small way we have been disrupted as the traffic flow has been changed on our little block meaning all our vans have to take a longer and more difficult route to get to K Road or into the city or over the bridge. But worse still all the K Road businesses who have been inconvenienced for many many months and in some cases ruined and forced to leave. And now my beloved Ponsonby and all those little shops and cafes who work very hard and survive because you can park outside and pop in. Their lives are soon to be messed with and all because someone thinks we should be a nation of bike riders. How many do you ever see riding those lanes. I could could 4 in months and months. Definitely not against areas for this just not down our main streets. It sucks and makes me very mad!
Off to do nothing…or maybe I’ll just lie here a bit longer…
Love
Tracey
